One of the qualities I admire most about Niall Hone, (and his musical project, Lords of Form), is his constant drive to explore new soundscapes, continuously experimenting with genre melding sonics, bringing together elements of unlikely bedfellows, from space rock through to dub, from electronica through to folk. The last five LoF albums document Hone’s exploratory meanderings throughout the musical spectrum and contain a number of real genre-spanning gems of consciousness expanding work.

Fallow & Fain, the latest release by the band, which has new recruits Tony Whiting (Vocals, Guitar) & Lukas Goodchild (Drums) now on board, feels like a turn in a new direction compared to previous  releases, but is still wrapped in the familiar,  with strands of space rock & heavy dustings of electronica intertwining the core of ancient folklore-inspired psychedelia.  There is an underlying unsettling feel of something sinister woven throughout many of the tracks which keeps you on the edge of your seat and fully immersed from start of the album to the finish.  

IMO the best Lords of Form album to date – thoroughly recommended.
